Case Study: Polo Liceale di Imola "Rambaldi - Valeriani" e "Alessandro da Imola"
Case One
Case one: an example of BullingA small group of young boys (11 - 13 years of age) , with a leader, insult, make fun, threaten some other children nearly every day while at the playground and sometimes they even are physically aggressive.
It looks like a typical example of bulling.
What do you think it could be done to avoid this behaviour?
What would you suggest in order to help the aggressive boys in stopping their negative behaviour?
Which methods to use to collect the data from the students:
Discussion in class
Group work
Short written report for each group work
Case Two
Case two: a difficult integrationA new student, coming from a different town in the north of Italy, is admitted to a class of the school after having passed an entry test.
Her parents are divorced and she lives with her mother in a small town in the surrounding of the school. This girl seems to be rather autonomous and well organised, but she is left and keeps rather isolated from the class group. When she participates in class the teachers realise she does not feel integrated. She seems to have problems also for her physical appearance as she is rather plump.
She seems to be a student not conforming to the "norm".
What do you think it could be done to help her in integrating into the class group?
Research on topics which seem to be connected with the case study:
- socialising
- mental illness
- anorexia
- bulimia
Case Three
Case three: A case of mobbing in a working contextA young woman of 25, while attending the final year at university to specialize as an educator, has been employed in a social cooperative. Employed with an open-ended-contract. She was given a lot of different tasks but very little to do with her real competence of educator. She asked to be moved to another seat where the presence of an educator was required. Her request was accepted but she was asked to work in both seats until another person was employed. Hard work for some months with good results then all of a sudden the projects she was working on were interrupted and she was asked to do some very low level tasks (such as cleaning, cooking ....). When she tried to complain, on one side she was given word-support by the board managing but on the other side she was sent a letter (also published on the seat board) with a mocking answer to her request. She is mocked by work-mates and she experiences a very bad atmosphere at work. She really feels awkward and she needs medical attentions too.
Students are asked to
- Study about the phenomenon of "mobbing"
- Analyse the situation
- Analyse the action the young woman took to protect herself legally
- See which other possible actions could be taken on her side
