2. Value: Respect for the Environment - Valuing the forest

This project was carried out during the second term of the schoolyear 2006-2007

"Respect for the Environment" was one of the basic values focussed by the project this year. All schools of the partnership prepared a sub-project - Taiga, Forest Fair - whose results will be presented during the Project Meeting in the Finish school. This project was integrated in the curricular activities of the subject English and Arts. One of the Arts Teacher's proposals to students was that after a research phase - organizing a file with photos, collecting pictures of trees and forests (soil, plants, seeds, berries...) ; studying the theme in painting; visiting the forest, students would register graphically different trees, using techniques of painting from the crayon, to the gouache, aquarelle or other.
Afterwards they were given 4 exercises:
  1. representation of a realistic tree, respecting its structure, form, colour...
  2. expressionist representation of a tree (if possible the same one), depicting a feeling: pain, violence, passion...
  3. fantastic or surrealistic representation of a tree, by transforming or changing the image, or associating elements or dissonant pictures
  4. abstractionist representation of a tree, starting , for instance, from its structural essence

Was this product useful?

It was useful not only for the Arts pupils own skills development, but also for all those who had the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the results displayed at the School Hall. The Taiga, Forest Exhibition was opened on Spring Day for Europe, 2007; the national anthem and the Europe Hymn were played on sax by a pupil high up from the school balcony while a Thai pupil was hoisting the EU flag.

Local authorities, including the Mayor herself, attended the performance, visited the "Taiga, Forest" Exhibition and helped plant intercultural trees (trees that are planted by representatives of different cultures at school on "Spring Day for Europe").
Is this best product transferable to other schools?

Recommendations:
It is only an idea: to use an official date/event to bring local authorities to school and make them see the results of projects we think are worth of it. They always bring media behind and that is a way to disseminate projects.
