Participating schools
The last meeting of the SDP "Basic Values" coincides with the annual conference of the Europroject "Education without frontiers".Cygnaeus-lukio in Jyväskylä will host the conference.
The following schools will be represented by four students and two members of the staff/board.

The theme of the project 'Taiga - forest' fits very well in the general theme of the SDP "Basic Values".Schools have applied the general theme on concrete and actual situations.
The Zaragoza conference (2006) focused on the rivers in Europe; the Jyväskylä conference (2007) deals with 'Taiga - forest'.
Challenging workshops and preparations of the topic
Choose a forest in your own country (region):Language: what is / are the word(s) for "forest" in your own language? Add a short description of the meaning.
List the 5 most common trees in your country (in English and your own language + the scientific name).
Biological aspectDescribe the flora and fauna.
Describe the soil: what is growing in your forest?
Economic and functional aspect
What is the use of the forest for economic reasons in your country?
What do you do in the forest: passtime? How important is forest to you?
Think about the things in your home made of wood: which objects made of wood do you use a lot?
List the things you eat associated with the forest.
Ecological aspect
Sustainability of the forest: what is the importance of the forest in your country?
Is the forest in danger?
Why should it be preserved?
Ethical aspect
What is the policy in your country of cutting down woods (city expansion, private property, economic reasons e.g. paper industry, furniture, etc...)?
What is the policy about hunting, free entrance to the forest, ...?
Art aspect
How is the forest represented in your cultural heritage? Give one example (if there is one) for:
Paintings, sculptures, etc.: add a picture.
Literature (a poem or a story): summarised in 3 lines.
Music: add a song (MP3).
